North Lancing Curriculum
We intend that all children at North Lancing enjoy their learning, achieve their potential and become independent, life-long learners.
We aim to encourage each child to practice the five core values of our school:

Our curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils in preparation for the opportunities and experiences of adult life.
There are topics for each year group that ensure development and progression of knowledge, skills and concepts. There are curriculum coordinators for all subjects who act as advisors to the staff in general.
Assessment
There are a number of National Assessments throughout primary education. Early Years pupils complete a baseline assessment on entry. This is a 1:1 activity with a known adult that takes place in the first 6 weeks of school. During Year 1, pupils complete a phonics screening assessment. The phonics screening check helps to identify children who have not learned to decode using phonics by the end of Year 1. These children will then receive. additional support to ensure they can improve their decoding skills. Parents are informed of outcomes.
Pupils in Year 4 complete a multiplication tables check. The check helps schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
During the year in which the children reach their eleventh birthday (Year 6) pupils take National Curriculum Tests in reading, mathematics and GPS (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling.) This marks the end of Key Stage 2. The results of these tests are given to parents individually, together with their school report. Parents will also be given the National Results.
