Our Governing Body is made up of 12 members and operates as a single governing body, without a committee structure.
Governors play an important role in the leadership and development of our school. Their key responsibilities, as set out in The School Governance (Roles, Procedures and Allowances) (England) Regulations 2013, are to:
- ensure the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- support and hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school; and
- ensure the school’s financial resources are used effectively and responsibly.
The overall purpose of the Governing Body is to help ensure that all pupils receive a high-quality education and have the opportunity to achieve their best.
The day-to-day running of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher and staff. Governors do not manage the school on a daily basis. Instead, they provide strategic leadership, oversight and challenge, helping to ensure that the school is well led and continually improving.
Our Governors act as a critical friend to the school. This means providing support, asking challenging questions and holding leaders to account, while always keeping the best interests of our pupils at the heart of their work.
Governors have an important role in decisions relating to areas such as curriculum, finance, staffing, safeguarding and premises. Through their work, they help to ensure that North Lancing Primary School continues to provide a safe, inclusive and high-quality education for every child.
